1. Pisa
Stop
About the destination: The city of Pisa once rivalled Genoa and Venice as a maritime power, emulated Padua and Perugia as a university town, and developed a distinctive style of Romanesque architecture. Today, the city draws its fame from an architectural project gone terribly wrong and relies on the tide of tourists who flow into the city every day. The most important monuments are concentrated in the piazza del Duomo. The baptistery, cathedral, Leaning Tower, and Camposanto shine like carved ivory, rising out of a broad expanse of emerald green grass. The duomo contains Giovanni Pisano’s masterful pulpit, with its violently dramatic Gothic reliefs. You can make your unbalanced way to the top of the Torre Pendente, the Leaning Tower of Pisa, from which local boy Galileo Galilei dropped a variety of objects in his attempt to understand gravity. Education has fuelled the local economy since the 1400s, and students from across Italy still compete for places in its elite university and research schools and help keep a vibrant and affordable cafe and bar scene. This metropolis of a hundred thousand inhabitants is much more than a tower, is a city full of art and history.

Stay
About the destination: Monterosso al Mare is located at the center of a small natural gulf, protected by a small artificial reef, to the east of Punta Mesco in the Riviera of La Spezia. It is the westernmost of the Cinque Terre. In the west part of the original village, beyond the hill of the Capuchins, it is the village of Fegina, natural expansion and characterized by a relatively modern tourist resort facility compared to the ancient village that is reachable through a tunnel of a few tens of meters. The local train station is located at Fegina and the beaches are relatively larger compared to the narrow cliffs that characterize the other villages of the Cinque Terre.

About the destination: Title: Exploring the Charm of Vernazza in the Cinque Terre Nestled along the rugged coastline of the Italian Riviera, the enchanting village of Vernazza is a jewel of the Cinque Terre. With its colorful houses perched on cliffs, charming cobblestone streets, and picturesque harbor, Vernazza offers travelers a taste of Italian coastal life at its most authentic. This UNESCO World Heritage site, accessible by train, boat, or the famous hiking trails, is a must-visit destination for those seeking breathtaking scenery, rich history, and a tranquil escape from the hustle and bustle of city life. Begin your Vernazza adventure by wandering through the narrow alleys and staircases that crisscross the village, each turn unveiling stunning views of the Ligurian Sea. The main street, Via Roma, leads you to the lively piazza, where locals and tourists alike gather to enjoy fresh seafood and Ligurian specialties at quaint cafes and restaurants. Don't miss the chance to sample the local pesto, a regional delicacy, or to sip on a glass of Sciacchetrà, the area's renowned sweet dessert wine. A visit to Vernazza would not be complete without exploring its historic sites. The Church of Santa Margherita d'Antiochia, dating back to the 14th century, stands proudly near the water's edge, offering a serene place of worship with an ornate marble interior. High above the village, the Doria Castle and Belforte Tower provide panoramic views of the Cinque Terre coastline and the surrounding hillsides cultivated with vineyards and olive groves. These ancient fortifications, once critical for defending the village from pirates, are now peaceful vantage points for photographers and romantics alike. For the adventurous traveler, Vernazza serves as an excellent starting point for hikes along the world-famous Sentiero Azzurro, the Blue Trail, which connects all five villages of the Cinque Terre. The section between Vernazza and Monterosso al Mare is particularly stunning, with a path that winds through terraced vineyards and offers spectacular vistas. After a day of exploration, return to the harbor to unwind and watch the sunset, as fishing boats gently bob in the water and the sky transforms into a canvas of fiery hues. Vernazza's blend of natural beauty, historic charm, and laid-back atmosphere makes it an unforgettable destination on any Italian itinerary.

Stay
About the destination: Discovering Corniglia: The Hidden Gem of the Cinque Terre Perched atop a rugged cliff along the stunning Italian Riviera, Corniglia presents a tranquil escape into the heart of the Cinque Terre's less-traveled paths. Unlike its neighboring villages, Corniglia sits high above the sea, offering breathtaking panoramic views that stretch infinitely across the Mediterranean. As the smallest and most secluded of the five historic towns, it remains an idyllic retreat for travelers seeking to immerse themselves in the serene beauty and rich culture of this UNESCO World Heritage site. Upon arrival, visitors are greeted by the Lardarina, a long brick flight of steps that ascends from the train station to the village center. Those who conquer the 377 steps are rewarded with the charm of Corniglia's narrow streets and colorful houses. In the heart of the village, the main square, Largo Taragio, presents the perfect backdrop for savoring a gelato or indulging in traditional Ligurian dishes such as trofie al pesto, accompanied by the local Sciacchetrà wine. A leisurely stroll through the ancient alleys reveals the 14th-century Church of San Pietro, a testament to the Gothic Ligurian style, with its beautiful rose window and impressive facade. For the nature enthusiasts, Corniglia is a haven of hiking trails that intertwine with the lush landscape of the Cinque Terre National Park. The famous Sentiero Azzurro, or Blue Path, connects Corniglia to its neighboring villages, offering a scenic trek through vineyards, olive groves, and the Mediterranean scrub. The trail to Vernazza is particularly spectacular, as it unveils the dramatic coastline and the deep blue sea below. Alternatively, the hike towards Manarola presents a more serene journey through terraced hillsides and hidden sanctuaries. Corniglia's remote location deters the larger tourist crowds, making it the perfect destination for those seeking solace and an authentic Italian village experience. Whether it's sipping on a cappuccino in a quaint café, swimming in the crystal-clear waters of the hidden coves, or simply watching the sunset cast a golden glow over the terraced vineyards, Corniglia offers a timeless escape and a slice of paradise that remains untouched by the bustle of modern life. Come and discover the quiet allure of Corniglia, where every moment is a step back in time and a dance with nature's pristine beauty.
